Intro To Vocal Painting with Kari Francis

Have you ever wanted a structured way to improvise multiparty vocal music? In this hands-on workshop, Kari will introduce you to Vocal Painting (VoPa), a practice that combines Walter Thompson's Soundpainting gestures with Bobby McFerrin's Circlesongs to make a sign language for composing music in the moment with other singers.

By regularly incorporating practices like Vocal Painting in both rehearsal and performance, vocal ensembles can become spaces for fostering individual artistry, developing collective identity, and expanding how we think about performing as including notated arrangements as well as collaboratively composed performances.
